Murugadoss-Suriya All Set To Recreate Ghajini Magic

With the final product promising to impress even Hollywood film makers, ‘7aam Arivu’ is Suriya’s biggest film till date

While RA.One, with its 200 crore budget and the presence of King Khan is tagged as the most anticipated movie from Bollywood this Diwali, Tamil moviedom replies to the challenge with its 84 crore ‘7aam Arivu’ (Seventh Sense) being churned out by the duo of director A R Murugadoss and actor Suriya, whose previous film ‘Ghajini’ is now placed among the landmark films in Tamil movie history.

Other than the director and the superstar, two other names of prominence attached with the movie are that of Shruthi Hassan and music director Harris Jayaraj. ‘Ezham Arivu’ marks the first film of Shruthi Hassan in Tamil after a couple of forgettable films in Hindi and Telugu. The movie has six songs set to tune by Harris Jayaraj, the leading music composer in Tamil movie industry. Amidst widespread claims of the songs being ripped off from Harris Jayaraj’s own earlier compositions, the songs still have managed to give the needed boost to the much awaited film.

‘Ghajini’ was the film which effectively brought actor Suriya to the fore front of the crowded galaxy of superstars in Tamil movie industry. With an innovative storyline, loosely based on Christopher Nolan’s ‘Memento’ and through a masterful performance by actor Suriya suffering from short term memory loss, ‘Ghajini’ had even managed to overtake the humungous Shankar directed Vikram starrer ‘Anniyan’ in box office collections. After having remade the film in Bollywood with Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan, A R Murugadoss returns to Tamil and has rejoined forces with Suriya for his second movie ‘Ezham Arivu’.

Although rumors had emerged that this film too was Hollywood inspired - this time, ‘Inception’ directed by Christopher Nolan- the director himself came forward to clarify that the script for ‘Ezham Arivu’ was original in every sense. Suriya plays a dual role in the film, that of a 5th century Buddhist monk and a 21st century handicapped circus performer.

Udayanidhi Stalin, with Red Giant films, has financed this 84 crore venture made simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. Vietnamese actor Johnny Tri Nguyen plays the antagonist in the movie.

Director A R Murugadoss is all praise for Suriya in the movie. “He is like water which adapts itself to the shape of the vessel it is poured into. Suriya adapts himself to the roles he plays in the movies very well. This movie will feature a different Suriya,” says the director.

“Human beings have a sixth sense when compared animals. This sense is what helps them discriminate the good from the bad, whereas ‘Ezham Arivu’ is about what will happen if there was to be a seventh sense,” says director A R Murugadoss.

The story line of the film deals with the myth that the Chinese martial art of Kung-fu had actually originated in India. The Buddhist monk ‘Bodhidharma’, played by Suriya, migrates from southern India to China and the martial arts he teaches there evolves into the modern day Kung-fu. The plot is also a nod to the theory that although the origins have been completely lost in the shadows of time, the human DNA has still got locked in it all the secret information regarding every step that man has made through the centuries…

Suriya has done all the stunts in the film without using a body dupe and his performances are being compared with the master stunt performer Bruce Lee himself. Of course he will display his six packs acquired for the movie and has also handled a bit of circus acts by himself. The actor underwent a special training session from a trainer in Rajkamal circus for the movie.

It is said that the actor himself got the producer Udayanidhi Stalin involved with the project after being immensely impressed by the story which was narrated to him by the director.

The film will hit theaters on the Deepavali day of October 26. With the kind of anticipation that the film has generated all across the sub continent, the film is sure to light up the festive season with its songs, special effects and the trend setting action sequences.
